4am I started having contractions which I thought were wind pains. They were about 5 minutes apart. I woke up Jay and my mum and bugged them for most of the morning.
The midwife came about 11am and told us that probably nothing would happen so to get some rest. Sod her, it was happening!! We went for a walk to get some food to try to push things forward.
The pains kept coming and getting stronger. It was obvious that it was real labour. Another midwife came a bit later and examined me. I was 3cm. She told me to have a bath and left. I spent 2 hours in the bath with Jay and mum rubbing my back.
My waters broke in the bath. I kept begging my mum to get the midwife back because I wanted to go to the hospital. She had phoned her but she was taking her time. Eventually she turned up with gas and air and I was off in my dads car to the birthing centre. (In my soaking wet undies!)
Got to the birthing centre and was 7-8cm dilated. I began feeling the urge to push almost immediately, far too late for any birthing pool! I began to push, when Jamies head came out he began to cry. One more push and the whole body was out.
No rips, tears, cuts or grazes. Most importantly, no stitches! Jamie weighed 9lb 8oz! I was quite lucky to give birth to a biggun without tearing. But the midwife was fantastic and kept reassuring me that I was doing things right so I wouldn't tear. The pushing stage was really quick and actaully rather enjoyable!
All on gas and air which made the entire experience 'wonderful'. (I was away with the fairies so anything would have been 'wonderful!)
